Das Marimbula ist der Urbass der Karibik. Die acht Metallzungen sind in einem Halterungssystem so angebracht, dass sie einzeln stimmbar sind im Tonumfang von D-g. Werkseitig wird eine pentatonische Skala eingestimmt (F-Dur). Spielweise: Es ist sowohl mit den Fingern, als auch mit Mallets spielbar. Mit Mallets geschlagen, tönen die Zungen in frischen Obertönen.
